Plan C Counseling

SERVICES

Plan C Counseling Services offers individual counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help clients find answers and develop coping skills for life’s challenges.

Substance Abuse

Problems with substance abuse arise when a person repeatedly uses drugs or alcohol despite any negative consequences they incur.  The person eventually discovers they cannot stop on their own.  Substance Abuse can be treated with therapy, provided the individual is ready and willing for treatment.

Stress and Anxiety

While a certain amount of stress is a normal part of life, there are times when everything seems overwhelming to you.  Anxiety is a fear-based emotion which creates uncomfortable physical symptoms, as well as racing thoughts.  Through counseling, you will learn simple and effective techniques to strategically help you cope with stress and anxiety.

Depression

Depression is among the most treatable of mental disorders. Learning and utilizing encouraging self-talk and positive behaviors, along with getting to the source of depression, is the key to overcoming it. If left untreated, it may progress and can become debilitating.

Relationships

Relationships require work and are bound to face large and small challenges.  Discovering and recognizing where problems begin is the key to understanding what’s happening within the relationship.  Counseling can provide better communication and boundary setting to create a healthier relationship.

Anger Management

Anger is a normal human emotion, but when it gets out of control, it can become destructive.  Anger affects relationships and undermines the quality of life.  Having a “plan” to help deal with the anger lessens the chance of acting on it in an unhealthy manner.

Conflict Resolution

Conflicts, arguments, and change are natural and common parts of our lives.  The best way to combat that is with conflict resolution.  The goal is to find a way for two or more parties to come together in finding a solution to a disagreement.

About Casey

Choosing a counselor isn’t easy. You want to choose one that’s the best fit for you, and this can be difficult when there is little or no personal information provided. I am a counselor who has a strong desire to see people succeed. Being able to contribute to the well-being of others by helping them through a difficult time is very rewarding to me. I am open minded and extremely patient in helping my clients work through the various struggles and challenges they face. I have faced many of these same challenges personally, and I have been successful in creating solutions. I strive to make each day the very best it can be, and I will always do my best in helping others achieve happiness and peace of mind.

I have lived in Frisco since 2003 with my wonderful wife, and our rescue cat, Jack. I enjoy jogging, reading books, and watching sports. Prior to becoming a counselor in 2012, I was a manager for Starbucks in Plano. While I enjoyed working for Starbucks, I have always had the desire to help people change and grow in their personal lives. Upon obtaining my Master’s degree at Amberton University, I was employed at Life Management Resources in McKinney, Texas for 4 years, where I counseled people who struggled with Substance Use Disorders.

Some of the therapeutic techniques that I use are:

*Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Thoughts and feelings influence our behavior.

*Solution Focused Therapy: Goal oriented. Focuses on the present and the future rather than the past.

*Reality Therapy: Focuses on the here and now, with emphasis on fulfilling basic needs.

*Existential Therapy: The search for purpose and meaning, dealing with the inner conflict of existence itself.

*Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy: This helps to realize and change irrational and negative thinking into positive thinking. One can change negative beliefs to avoid negative feelings.

*EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing):  is a fairly new, nontraditional type of psychotherapy. It’s growing in popularity, particularly for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Can be used for other mental health issues such as anxiety, grief, and loss.

Counseling methods differ with each individual, as people respond uniquely to various methods.

Substance Abuse Evaluations are completed in Frisco by appointment only.

Substance Abuse Evaluations are $125.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is counseling?

Counseling is an interpersonal relationship created between the counselor and the client.  It is a way to explore any present challenges the client is experiencing, and it will help identify and process any past experiences that have affected the client.  One of the goals is to understand patterns of behavior in order to work towards solving any problems the behavior is creating.

How can counseling help me?

There are times in life when certain issues or events can be overwhelming and cause emotional distress.  This can inhibit the ability to handle life’s challenges, and it can also put a strain on relationships.  Counseling is an effective way to help with issues that cause emotional, mental, or physical distress.  It should never be considered a “weakness” to ask for help.

What should I expect from counseling?

You can expect the counselor to listen objectively and openly to your concerns and needs.  By helping you to develop a better understanding of these concerns, you are able to ultimately deal with them more effectively.  Your level of participation will also affect your progress.

How much does it cost?

Individual sessions are $140, and $200 for two people.  Cash, check, and credit cards are accepted for your convenience.

Substance Abuse Evaluations are $100.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes.  Additional minutes can be requested at the rate of $25 for every 15 minutes.

How long will I be in counseling?

This varies with each client, as the counselor and client work together to determine how many sessions will be needed to address therapeutic goals.  Typically, it is a good idea to start with 10 sessions initially, but it can always be adjusted to fit the client’s particular situation.

Why doesn’t Plan C accept insurance?

Insurance companies have the ability to determine the number of sessions, the length of these sessions, and typically require a diagnosis for authorization and continuation.  With you and your counselor in control, your privacy is protected, there is freedom to determine the length of treatment, and it prevents insurance companies from attaching a negative label that can interfere with your health care in the future. Your files are never shared with anyone outside our office.

Will I experience some difficulties in counseling?

Perhaps what is most difficult is making the decision to see a counselor for the first time.  By getting the help you need through counseling, you are taking the first step in changing the way you think, behave, and feel which offers a better quality of life. You may experience uncomfortable feelings or frustration in your sessions, but processing those feelings and thoughts are critical in finding new and exciting aspects of yourself.

How do I know when a counselor is right for me?

The most important element is the quality of the relationship that is built between the counselor and client.  It is vital that you feel connected to your counselor.  Generally, you should allow 2 or 3 sessions to decide whether the counselor is a good fit for you.  I also offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to provide you an opportunity to meet and talk with your counselor.

Are you available on evenings and weekends?

Plan C Counseling offers morning, afternoon, early evening, and Saturday morning appointments for your convenience.

Are my sessions confidential?

As a client, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality.  The only limitations to confidentiality are when a client is considered a threat to themselves or others if harm to a minor is suspected, or when legal requirements demand information to be disclosed.
